Work at Home Business Ideas

When you are first starting out you may have a home business idea of what you want to sell, but you might not have thought of the changes in the seasons and other important factors that can affect your sales, and ultimately the success of your business. Hence, it is important to consider whether or not you can really consider your business an all-season business or not.

One good example of a business idea that may struggle throughout the year except for one month is a costume store. During October and around Halloween, these businesses can make huge profits, but during the other eleven months, they may struggle just to keep the doors open.

On the other hand, an example of a year-round business is an interior design business. People are always looking for new ways to decorate their homes, especially as the seasons change, so if you have the skills needed, this could really be the best decision you've ever made.

To decide whether or not your business can be considered all year-round, think about the different activities, services, and products you partake in throughout the year. If your business idea falls into only one or two seasons or months, then expand your plan, or modify it.

For instance, if you wanted to open a business selling skateboarding gear, you should know that it is useless to try to sell skateboards while there is snow covering the ground. However, you could always expand your business plan to include both skateboarding and snowboarding gear so you are covering the entire year.

Once you have an idea of what it will take to market your business throughout the year, you can start to create a better plan for operating your business. Having all of your ideas set out from the beginning, it is a lot easier to plan ahead for possible downfalls and scenarios, and adjust for them accordingly.

This will save you a ton of trouble when you otherwise might have realized at the last minute. It is much better to be prepared than to be caught blind and grasping for strategies to keep you above water.

In the end, knowing what it will take to keep your business productive through all twelve months is one major key to starting a successful business. If you have a plan ahead of time, and you budget for the costs of integrating all of your business plans into one, you will be much more successful during the months that your primary product may not be bringing in the money.

Make sure you think about all of the factors that can affect your sales throughout the year, not just the change in seasons, and make sure you have a plan to counteract their harmful effects on the productivity and growth of your new business.

Hot Topics - 4 - Work At Home Ideas To Save Money On Your Energy Bills By Switching Supplier

Work From Home Ideas To Save Money On Your Gas bill And Electricity Bill

Working from home will mean using more energy on things like your computer, lighting and heating.

Many people who work at home do not realise how simple it is to implement an energy saving plan. Just by switching your energy suppliers you will save a considerable amount of money on your gas bill.

If you work from home in the UK you are free to choose which company supplies your gas and electricity. There are no changes to the pipes, all that changes is the price you pay and who you pay it to.

What do You need?

To get a quote takes just a few minutes and the entire process is very easy. To give you the most accurate savings quote, it is necessary you have an indication of the amount of energy you use, or the amount you pay per year for your energy. Your bill will give you a good idea if you don't have this information to hand.

How does the service work?

This excellent service saved me £179.00 by comparing the tariffs of all major energy suppliers. Results are ranked strictly in order of the savings you make.

All you need to know is who your supplier is, approximately how much gas and electricity you use, or how much you spend per month or per year. All of our data comes from the energy suppliers directly and is regularly updated to ensure it is accurate.

What happens after You submit an application?

The company will confirm your application by email and automatically forward your details securely to your chosen energy supplier. The supplier will start processing the switch and will contact you to confirm when your new service will begin; this may take up to 50 days.

Hot Topics - 002 - Breaking The Silence Of The Web

Breaking The Silence Of The Web

What if your Website could talk?

An Audio Generator has just been released to the general public.

In 1895, Guglielmo Marconi invented the radio by sending the first talking signal in Italy. And by 1899, he transmitted a talking signal across the English Channel.

Two years later, the Italian inventor sent the first transatlantic talking message from England to New Foundland. this marked the birth of voice communication and made a huge impact on trade and commerce.

* * * FAST-FORWARD 101 YEARS * * *

About a month ago, my colleague hooked-up with former Microsoft employee, Rick Raddatz to develop a brand new online technology that has even more commercial potential than the radio!

I know this sounds crazy. But when I made a visit to Armand's Website, his FREE TRIAL DEMO made a believer out me.

Armand has discovered that Website visitors are more willing to listen to sales messages than reading them.

No matter how long your audio message is, Audiogenerator is designed to play the moment you click the “Play Button” … even if you’re on dial-up.

Article 28 - Affiliate Marketing – Learn The Basics

Affiliate Marketing – Learn The Basics

Copyright © Elston Tuitt
Work at Home Business Ideas and Opportunities

Many people are surprised at the number of sophisticated ways advertisers try to reach them. Most Internet surfers could identify a banner or text ad, but the majority could not tell you about performance marketing also known as affiliate marketing and pay-for-performance marketing.

Affiliate Marketing is one channel of marketing products and services online. It traditionally includes a retailer and a publisher, sometimes known as an affiliate.

For this article, we define a publisher, as an independent party that promotes the products or services of an advertiser in exchange for a commission on leads or sales.

An affiliate displays ads, text links, or product links on its Web site, in email campaigns, or in search listings and is paid a commission by the advertiser when a visitor takes a specific action, such as filling out a form, making a purchase or subscribing to a service.

A merchant, also known as an advertiser or retailer, is a Web site or company that sells a product or service online, accepts payments and fulfills orders.

If you place an ad or link to the merchant's products and/or services on your Web site and the merchant pays you a commission for leads or sales that result from your site.

What it Takes to Succeed

Those publishers suited best for affiliate marketing have some consistent characteristics:

They must have a Web site designed for a specific niche of consumers or audience. While not all affiliates have content sites, it is a simple way to enter into the affiliate marketing industry and a solid foundation to build upon if you later branch out to other marketing channels such as search engine marketing.

You should have basic HTML skills to be able to insert and track advertisements such as banners, buttons and links.

A set amount of time per day to dedicate to the program depending on number of Web sites.

Now Learn the Language – Affiliate Marketing Speak

Just like in any industry, affiliate marketing has its own language. Don't be intimidated; pretty soon these terms will be second nature.

Application Service Provider (ASP ) – An ASP is an online network that is accessible through the Internet instead of through the installation of software. It is quickly integrated with other Web sites and the services are easily implemented and scalable.

Commission Payout – An amount of income received by a affiliate for some quantifiable action such as selling an advertiser's product and/or service on the publisher's Web site.

Click-through Ratio (CTR) - Also known as a click. The action a consumer takes when they are referred from a Web site through a link or advertisement and is taken to another Web site. Click-through ratio is the percentage of click for the number of advertising impressions displayed.

Cost per action (CPA) - A metric for online advertising where a rate is set for every action that is taken by an end-user. It is also known as pay for performance.
Cost per thousand impressions (CPM) - A metric for online advertising where a rate is set for every thousand impressions.

Conversion rate- The percentage of visitors who take a desired action. The action that determines conversion is determined by the advertiser and may be a sale on the advertiser's Web site, a completed lead form, or another action.

Impression- The viewing of an advertising banner, link, or product.

Search Engine Marketing (SEM ) - The act of marketing a Web site via search engines. This can be done by "natural" or "organic" search which refers to all unpaid search results based on relevance in the content site or "paid" search which refers to all pay-per-click advertising (such as on MSN, Yahoo! or Google).

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)- The process of increasing the amount of visitors to a Web site by ranking high in the search results of a search engine. Varied techniques are used by content site affiliates to improve their web page's results.

Article 27 - How To Profit From Internet Marketing

How To Profit From Internet Marketing

Copyright © Elston Tuitt
Work at Home Business Ideas and Opportunities

With the Internet continuing to grow at a phenomenal, there is a whole new way of marketing a business. Especially for businesses who perform most of their transactions online. When reaching for online customers, internet marketing becomes the main target for your marketing efforts as it will attract the customers in your demographic – online users.

We have at our disposal two distinct styles for online marketing, one is business marketing, the other is website marketing. With web site marketing the goal is to have people searching for particular services or products find your web site while conducting an online search through the major search engines.

There are many facets involved in web site marketing and once a business is able to get them all clicking together, there is a good chance they will experience a major influx of new visitors to their web site.

One the other side are businesses that heavily promote their availability aimed at the internet users more so than the search engines. Buying internet advertisements, sending out emails and other promotional marketing materials that are designed to bring visitors to their online web sites, are just a few of the online marketing strategies being used today.

One of the things to remember with online marketing is to consider your home page as a billboard along the side of the road. If there is little traffic along the road, there will be few people who will see your billboard so your efforts should be focused on getting people on the right road.

Looking at it from another perspective, there may be over a thousand people selling a certain brand of personal care items and they all have a web site, many provided free when they signed up and they all look alike and have the same enhancements.

If a person searches for the brand by name, there is no telling whose web site is going to pop up in the search results. If you own one of these thousands of sites, specific marketing will need to be done to guide that potential traffic to the site you own. To do this you can use pay-per-click advertising that you pay for based on the number of visitors who click through to your web site.

Affiliate marketing is also a popular method of bringing visitors to your site. As a business, you agree to pay a certain percentage or dollar amount of a sale to another site, an affiliate, who drives the traffic to you. Essentially, you are gaining free advertising and only pay for it if your site makes a sale.

While some link exchange programs have been successful in the past, having thousands of unrelated links to your site may turn search engines against you and lose your information from their engines and as a result from their results pages. If your links continue to be inconsistent with your content you can even lose ranking.

Article 26 - How To Follow A Budget

How To Follow A Budget

Copyright © Elston Tuitt
Work at Home Business Ideas and Opportunities

Follow a budget can be very difficult at first. This can be a big concern if you have been use to spending money freely. First step of course is setting up your budget and some guidelines to keep within your budget. Be sure that all expenses are accounted for. Don’t forget to include fun money or entertainment funds if able. Once your budget is put together carefully you are ready to set up some guidelines to assist you in keeping on track with your budget.

Create a spreadsheet to keep track of your expenses and update it regularly.

One of the best ways to keep you on budget is to stop carrying cash. For most of us while shopping when we see signs offering miscellaneous items for ninety-nine cents we can’t resist. It’s just a dollar here and a dollar there. Those dollars add up fast and before you know it the thirty pounds in your pocket is gone. By not carrying cash you can help stop impulse buying. If you still prefer to carry cash, your best bet is to only take what money is necessary to spend. Give yourself an estimate of what your groceries will cost you. Take only that amount with you. This will help curb the need to purchase excess items, knocking you off the budget track

Always shop with a list to help prevent unnecessary spending. If you make a weekly or biweekly grocery list, you will only be purchasing those needed food items. Or create a list of cleaning supplies and stick to those isles only. If you allow yourself to wander aimlessly around a store you are allowing yourself to be tempted for other purchases. It can be very hard to stay on budget when tempted by those objects that surround you in a store.

Become a thrifty shopper. It can’t hurt to look through coupons. Even a few saved cents per purchase can really add up on savings in the end. Searching through clearance sections in stores is another way to find items you need and save money on as well. You may be pleasantly surprised to see how much you can take home, and still have money in your pocket on your way out the shop.

Keeping yourself on a budget is about self-control. It’s fighting the urge to buy what is not needed. If you have a difficult time curbing your shopping habit, keep a friend or relative with you on shopping outings. Someone you can trust to steer you away from temptation. As long as you lower the temptation for purchases, make a list and stick to necessary isles you will prevent yourself from loosing track of your budget needs.

And finally, once you conquer your shopping demons, you will become proud of yourself for doing so. It’s a good feeling to be able to shop and stick to a list of items and not cave to those savings signs. You’ll feel a great sense of accomplishment as well. So don’t be overwhelmed, grab that pen and paper and make a start on that budget plan today.

Article 25 - Starting A Work At Home Business With Your Spouse

Starting A Work At Home Business With Your Spouse

Copyright © Elston Tuitt
Work at Home Business Ideas and Opportunities

While on the surface this may seem like a good idea. After all you will both share the same goal of making money for the family, you are used to each other’s little quirks and if the business is based out of your home, the cost of getting to work can be a great savings on the family budget.

However, two people learning to live together as man and wife can be tough enough without spending all day, everyday together. Before joining hands and taking the plunge into the work at home pool, you will need to take a hard look at some of the potential obstacles.

The first item on the list of possible challenges is the fact that you will be spending almost every waking hour with your spouse. While compatibility in a relationship can hold it together just fine, you must determine if that compatibility can withstand another eight hours a day.

Making the change from business partner to husband and wife every day can be a tough transition. You will not be able to leave all of your work problems at the job and home problems at the door.

Make sure your goals for the company are in line with those of your spouse. By sitting down and discussing the goals of the business you may learn that your idea of what to expect from the business may be contrary to what your spouse is looking to achieve.

You may want to eventually expand and franchise the business while your spouse wants to simply make enough money for the family to live comfortably. If your goals are not aligned, your business will probably fail and so might the marriage, so make sure the business plan (Palo Alto Business Plan Pro Premier 2007 (PC))is agreed.

One of the most important aspects of entering into a business partnership with a spouse is having clearly defined roles in the business. Determine up front who will perform what function such as accounting or who will handle incoming orders and packing for shipping.

Look at the strengths and plan individual roles that best complement the strengths of each partner. It is not a good thing for one partner to believe that while you are the boss at work, they are boss at home.

Resist the urge to let customers know your business partner is also your spouse. While this may seem unimportant, it can possibly cause a customer to hold back if they have a complaint against your partner.

You also need to deal with business issues in a professional and constructive manner. You should never personally attack your partner for a business decision. Instead, address the situation and ways to fix it instead of addressing your partner.

Never mix work and family issues when on the job. You need to have a set schedule for work and the rest of time can be spent on family issues. Trying to mix the two will almost guarantee failing at both. If you both want it to work it will.
